No Travel – No Blog
Confession time! Back on April 12 I promised I would enumerate all the fun activities we reveled in while in Louisiana. It’s now well over a month later and I haven’t laid finger to keyboard to make that promise come true. I drift from one day to the next, most days not even bothering to get out of my pajamas. I fear that in the first year of my travel blog that there will no longer be any travel to blog about! Pretty pessimistic, huh?
I am truly worried that this will be the year of little to no travel. We already have two vacations planned and mostly paid for. What will become of all those plans? Travel as we know it, especially International travel is going to be drastically altered by this pandemic and all the uncertainty it brings. I pray for all the friends in the travel business we have made over the years. I pray for them and their families that they safely come through this time of crisis.
I think I am turning into one of our cats. Eat, sleep and use the potty box, repeat. Elizabeth, my dearest wife claims that if I would just get out of my PJ’s I will feel much better. I tried it the day before yesterday and it didn’t seem to matter. In fact she tricked me with that ruse. “Well, honey, since you are dressed we could get out for a while. We could go to the store for a few items and while we are out maybe go for a walk on the green way.” Aha, the curtain is pulled back and all is revealed! I should have guessed something was up! The last time I got into some real clothes, I ended up mowing the lawn.
Several weeks ago I did get some travel under my belt. Our church, which is about a half hour drive from home, was getting a new roof. I was lucky enough to be the “over seer.” I was absolutely awe struck as I watched the roofing crew climb around on our very steep roof removing old shingles putting on new. What an absolutely fascinating operation as they swung from ropes and moved around the roof like a well-choreographed ballet. Three days, and the old roof was off and the new roof was on!
We’ve also done some traveling to our local grocery stores (Usually the highlight of our day). We most often don’t need anything, we just go there and walk around with our masks on. Sometimes we will not get something on our paltry list, just so we can come back the next day. How sorry is that?
Oh yes, I did travel to Nashville last week (12 hours round trip). I rode along with my daughter, Sheryl, to meet her husband, Jim, who is finishing up his job in St. Louis. We were delivering two of the grand children to their father for a little hiatus back in their old neighborhood and some high school graduation activities. Pretty uneventful journey but very serendipitous none the less. We did a “drive-by” greeting for a cousin in Chattanooga and it turned out to be her and her sister’s birthdays. Happy birthday Karen and Ann!
Well, that’s enough of this drivel for now. I still have to fulfill my vow to tell you all about some of the fun activities we experienced during our Louisiana journey. I’m also going to get started on cleaning out my old office. That’s one journey I am not looking forward to!
Till next time, Ciao and stay well.
Love the layout — always looks so professional. And the content; even the non-travel news is engaging. And of course the photos. Dramatic church pictures, and uplifting. But it’s a bit challenging to differentiate the cat from the blogger in that first photo…
